Abstract

The tropical response to a localized thermal forcing with approximately 45-day period is investigated for several models of increasing complextity consisting of 2 equivalent shallow water systems and 2 fully stratified systems. The fully stratified models appear to be able to reproduce a number of observed features of the tropical 40-50 days oscillation including the modulation of the subtropical jet and the E and poleward propagation of zonal wind anomalies.-Authors
