This chapter describes how pediatric palliative care functions in the United States. Descriptions include health systems and policy, epidemiology of childhood illness and disease trajectory. Further information is provided regarding the need for pediatric palliative care programs and services and how these programs are funded and operationalized across America. Lastly, two long term well established pediatric palliative care programs are highlighted.
