The book presents a broad picture of the distribution of disease, considering the causes and interrelations between life styles, climate, food, health care and disease. The first part of the book describes western diseases, with particular emphasis on patterns of distribution throughout the world. The next section covers the Third World - diseases such as malaria and bilharzia, at present endemic in many areas, as well as famine, chronic hunger and malnutrition. The author concludes by indicating possible links between disease ecology and the geography of health care (including the use of traditional medicine), and of health education.-from Publisher
