Abstract

It was reported previously that the morphology of martensite in Fe-Ni-0. 25C alloys changes at about minus 150 degree C from a lenticular to a thin plate. In the present work, the relation between the temperature of transition from the lenticular to the thin plate and the carbon content of Fe-Ni-C alloys was examined on alloys with 0 to 0. 9%C and 25 to 35% Ni. Some features of the formation of thin plate martensite, compared with lenticular martensite, from austenite are also discussed.
