Abstract

This entry presents information on the global metals and mining industry as of October 2012. The industry posted a 21.5 percent growth in 2011 to reach a value of 2,997.1 billion U.S. dollars. The industry is expected to have a value of 4,988.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2016. Iron and steel is the largest segment of the industry. The industry is highly affected by macroeconomic conditions.
