Abstract

This paper examines the Leadership Styles adopted in the management of Students’ Affairs in the Selected Colleges of Education in Southwestern part of Nigeria. This was done to investigate the determinants in the process of leadership style in Nigeria College of Education. Data from both Primary and Secondary sources were sourced and utilised for this study. The primary data was derived through the administration of structured questionnaire on 116 randomly selected staff in the Directorate of Students Affairs selected for questionnaire administration due to their small size in the study areas. The retrieved data were analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistics in form of percentages, mean and standard deviation. It was found that leaders’ human relation (traits) (RII = 4.50), government policy (RII = 3.37), culture and tradition (RII = 4.03), gender (RII = 3.95) and attitude of staff (RII = 3.51) were factors that determined leadership styles adopted in the management of students’ affairs in the selected colleges. The study concluded that leadership styles adopted in the colleges significantly influence the management of students’ affairs. Students’ affairs services will function effectively when management adopts a proper leadership styled.
