Abstract

Cloud computing and blockchain technology are two rapidly evolving fields that have the potential to transform the way businesses and organizations operate. The combination of these two technologies has resulted in the emergence of three different architectures, namely, Cloud over Blockchain (CoB), Blockchain over Cloud (BoC), and Mixed Blockchain Cloud (MBC). In this paper, we present a comparative study of these three architectures with respect to their design, implementation, and performance. CoB is an architecture where blockchain is used as a backend to store and manage data for cloud applications. BoC is an architecture where a cloud-based infrastructure is used to host and run blockchain applications. MBC is a hybrid architecture that combines both CoB and BoC architectures, where multiple blockchain instances are deployed on a cloud-based infrastructure. We evaluate these architectures based on various parameters such as security, scalability, interoperability, and performance. Our analysis shows that CoB offers better security and privacy than BoC and MBC, while BoC provides better scalability and interoperability. MBC, on the other hand, offers a combination of both CoB and BoC, making it a more versatile architecture that can be tailored to different use cases. Overall, our study provides insights into the strengths and weaknesses of each architecture, helping organizations make informed decisions when choosing the most suitable architecture for their specific needs.
