Abstract

Some general features of future Patient Care Management Systems integrated with knowledge based systems are sketched. A general framework for this integration is presented. Within this framework the potential of knowledge based techniques has been investigated by building two experimental knowledge based systems integrated to a patient data management system. A description of these systems is given with some experiences gained during the development and evaluation of these systems. It seems that, although a lot of work remains to be done, knowledge based techniques together with other advanced informatics tools can improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of clinical care
