Abstract

The increased use of and reliance on technology has become a central part of everyday life. Specifically, romantic relationships and sexuality have been transformed by the Internet and new media. This chapter will discuss one type of image-based sexual abuse, termed revenge pornography. We will explore definitions of revenge pornography, the prevalence and correlates of this specific type of sexual violence, and the impacts for victims and the larger society. We identify key implications for policy and practice and argue that revenge pornography should be considered one type of violence along a continuum. Future explorations of revenge pornography should include examinations of gender and power.
