Abstract

Over the last decade multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems have received considerable attention. There is some limitation while obtaining the most from MIMO, such as mutual coupling between antenna elements. Mutual coupling and therefore inter-elements spacing have important effects on the channel capacity of a MIMO communication system, its error rate and ambiguity of MIMO radar system. The effect of mutual coupling on MIMO system has been studied and then different array configurations are considered. Different configuration show different mutual coupling behaviour. After modelling and simulation, the array was designed, implemented and finally verified the result using Vector Network Analyzer. In this paper, a compact Twin bands MIMO antenna with low mutual coupling, operating over the range of 2.1–2.845 GHz is proposed.
