Abstract

In this paper, an efficient traffic control scheme for real-time multimedia services is proposed with the use of the IEEE 802.11 WLAN for wireless access part in wireless networks, which is based on both the traffic estimation of the mean rate and header compression. The network model consists of the core RTP/IP network as well as the wireless access parts with lots of mobile hosts. This model is designed to include the means of provisioning Quality of Service (QoS) strategy according to the requirements of each particular traffic flow as well as the header compression method for real-time multimedia applications. Performance evaluation is carried out for showing the effectiveness of the proposed traffic control scheme. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media.
