Abstract

The question of difference implies not just comparison, but also classification. The taxonomy of organizations has consumed nonprofit scholars in recent years. In particular, within the kingdom of firms, one might fairly ask whether the “nonprofitness” of an organization determines its phylum or only its class. Which comes first, organizational form or activity?
