This tutorial paper discusses the aspects of MVS memory management that most relate to performance and tunlng. Virtual memory concepts are discussed first, followed by a description ofthe aging mechanism used In MVS to Implement page stealing. The page stealing Implementation Is then described. followed by a discussion of storage Isolation, a memory prioritization scheme that Is Implemented as an exception to global LRU page stealing.
