Abstract

Suturing and knot tying in endoscopic surgery requires the correct technique and hours of practice to effortlessly tie knots. However, aids have been developed for assisting the surgeon to tie knots. A list of devices and instruments that assist in the suturing and knot tying are enlisted and explained in this chapter. The list of such devices include self-righting needle holders, sew-right sewing device, Quick-stitch suturing system, clip knots, the Endostitch suturing device and the port-site closure device. The technique of use of the port-site closure device has also been described. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
