Abstract

Agronomic crops are mostly propagated through seeds compared to other techniques. Seed propagation is the basis for production of agronomic as well as vegetable and fruit crops. However, seeds have been and will continue to be the major source of food. Cereal seeds provide more food followed by legumes and pulse. About nine-tenth of all seeds cultivated are cereals, and cereals are breadstuffs providing the most important food components, viz., carbohydrates, protein, and other constituents, whereas oil seeds are a common source of edible oil and proteins. Improved agronomic and breeding techniques should be applied to increase seed production along with productivity of agronomic crops.
