Abstract

Symptoms of rice dwarf disease were observed in rice fields of Midsayap, North Cotabato, Philippines. The symptoms were clearly visible, even on plants affected by rice tungro bacilliform badnavirus. Serological tests and EM confirmed the presence of rice dwarf phytoreovirus. Virus particles were approx. twice the size (65 nm) of rice tungro bacilliform badnavirus. This is the first identification of rice dwarf phytoreovirus in the Philippines.
